A day in the life, Thursday June 21, 2007, first day of summer

In order to fend off summer vacation boredom, and for a
change from the status quo, I packed up the three year old and the
newborn, along with a picnic basket full of hastily-procured
comestibles and set out on an adventure. Well, a brief, not all that
exciting by world-class standards type of adventure, but nevertheless
a day-trip jaunt to places we had never yet been, and that counts for
something, doesn't it?

We raced with the freight trains along the C & O canal, stopped at a roadside stand and bought fresh cherries, and picnicked along the Potomac river at the Point of Rocks.

These are the sights along the way from rural Maryland across the
Potomac into Virginia by way of the backroads and byways...
