Thursday 1st August

Debra Broughton

I'll probably never forget this moment of calm out on a lunchtime visit to my barn. Coming back to the office afterwards someone asked if I'd seen the news and everything changed...

The reservoir, that has been a benign focal point of the town where I live, was about to breech. Not in danger myself, but my friends' homes and businesses, the place I called home, all at risk.

It's been a roller-coaster few days of sandbags and ballast, Chinooks, praying the weather would hold, being kept out, being hemmed in. More evacuations... more road closures.

The longer it goes on the better it looks for us all. We all hope that in 2 or 3 days it will all be over but the truth is no will know when it will be over until it's over.
