The French would have described Martin's cancer as "undulating" in that he'd have pain for a few days and then a long period where he was ok. We tend to assume that pain from cancer is not undulating.

It took at least a year from when Martin started going to the doctor for cancer to be diagnosed. This is not unusual for Ewing's.
