man-hole cover #1

Simon Chirgwin

Left with an hour before I needed to head for the airport, I started taking pictures of the incredible number of different manhole cover designs that there are in Kyiv. The lens I had with me was a prime 35 and the covers were too big to get in completely while looking through the view-finder so I ended up holding the camera at arms length level with my head, taking a shot, checking I hadn't cut off one of the edges, and then repeating til satisfied. The guy operating the traffic barrier near this one emerged from his hut to ask what I was doing; it is a complement to the parking attendants of Kyiv that he nodded wisely when I said the word 'triptych' and left me to it...

Triptych(s) to follow...
