One Ring to Rule Them All

Linus Gelber

At a show hosted by the evil mutant supervillain pastry Doctor Donut at the Galapagos Art Space in Williamsburg, Miss Saturn does hoopy battle with the forces of darkness. And wins, of course. Was the outcome ever in doubt?

Tech specs: Canon Digital Rebel XT, 1/125 second, f/1.8, ISO 400, 50mm lens.

Post: Some painting and TLC was required here with the levels and curves layers - the original shot is live from the audience, and is quite dark.

I painted a bit with the Dodge tool and used a Screen layer mask to bring her head out of severe shadow. There was also some brush painting and cloning to remove a few unsightly folds in her neck, and to change the contour where the neck and head join - hula hooping is a vigorous full-body activity which sometimes puts body parts in awkward juxtapositions. I've been shooting Miss Saturn for some time, and so corrected her back to the way she actually looks.

Finally, an overlay layer at very low transparency (probably around 20%) with the hue adjusted to the opposite pole increased the contrast and drama in her outfit.
