SXSW 2007: Gore Gore Girls (Amy Gore)
Linus Gelber
I first caught Gore Gore Girls a few years ago when they rolled through Brooklyn. Here at SXSW I'm happy to find that they have grown into a fierce kicking snarling sneering good-time band, smashing out a fusion of punk, attitude, and the flotsam of Detroit's mashed-up musical past.
The backyard stage at Yard Dog traditionally holds a bit of everything at the Bloodshot Records day party, and this year it's no different. Amy Gore tosses and turns and teases and roars at the microphone, and launches herself now and then into the audience, playing as she goes. On one turn she stamps out through the crowd, snatches a beer from a fellow a few rows back, takes a slug, and goes back to playing. Well, hey: she was thirsty. What's a Gore Gore Girl to do?
The last of my pictures from the festival will crop up over the next few weeks in the eponymous SXSW 2007 set. If you're interested, there's also a set of last year's photos from SXSW 2006 posted here on Flickr.
