art teacher hands

tamelyn feinstein

Today in Young Artist Camp we made tie-dyed shirts.

We folded our shirts, secured them with rubber bands, and soaked them in a soda ash solution. When it was time to apply the dye, I realized that I didn't have enough rubber gloves to go around, so I gave mine to the campers.

"But you'll get dye all over your hands!" they protested.
"Oh, it's ok," I replied. "I'll just have art teacher hands."

Sure enough, all afternoon, people would stop when they saw my hands and ask, "Have you been doing art? Are you a teacher?"

And I get to tell them about the cool kids in my camp, and how wonderfully enthusiastic and creative they are :)
