making waves

Gulf Shores, Alabama:
Golden sands and warm waters characterize this once sleepy southern shoreline. After battering by numerous hurricanes over the past 5 years, Gulf Shores is rebuilding, but most of the new development is high-rise condiminiums and chain restaurants. West Gulf Shores, which borders a National Seashore and Nature Preserve, is still relatively undeveloped compared to most of the nation's shoreline. I spent every summer as a child here, and although I live at the beach now, Gulf Shores is still a special place to me.
