Chinatown AST

Rachel Irving

This is why I love having a camera.

Processing this picture it was the memory of today. Of Alice saying "look at that ladder, is it made of trees?" and J replying "Bamboo" but Alice was already thinking about the next thing. All of them being tolerant of me stopping to take a picture, and when I said "Sorry" a passing stranger who assumed I was talking to him said "Oh! That's OK."

It was the distant memories of other Chinatowns in London and San Francisco, and Irving Street in the Sunset. Eating durian ice cream, because I couldn't believe that anything which smelled that way tasted good.

It was the combination of symbols I can't read and initials which are meaningless to me. It could be a dyslexic ASJ. Ordinary drainpipes, a shiny lantern, and a bamboo ladder, I have them all now, I have made my life into a single frame of a movie. Damn I'm happy to have a camera. Thanks for bearing with me.
