Balandra rocks

Sara Heinrichs

In both senses of the word... ;)

Balandra beach, just north of La Paz proper, is absolutely gorgeous. White sand, shallow water, dark rocks, and amazing colors.

Watch out for sting rays, however, and stinging little invisible jellyfish. I got to know the latter, and a kid we met stepped on a sting ray snorkeling. The thing jabbed THROUGH his fin and into his foot, requiring stitches and no small amount of purple, swollen badness on his foot. Yikes.

To the left, the beach disapears into the mangroves, full of birds and interesting things. We kayaked here for a morning, and I waded around until the sun got too high and my pale self retired to the shade.
