I saw this swan swimming way in the distance and then I saw a second head. WTF? Hey! So I waited until I could get the angle right and here it is. The incredible 2-headed swan... not. :)

Just reading in my New Zealand wildlife book that these are mute swans (Cygnus olor), originally introduced to NZ from Britain in the 1860s as an ornamental waterfowl. The book also says that the mute (or white) swan is extremely rare in the wild, with the total population in NZ of about 100 birds. Wow! That would explain why this is the first time I've seen them here.
