Self-Portrait with Tequila

Linus Gelber

The Beginner-to-Intermediate Photography group has a self-portrait challenge this week; we're not supposed to use any from the archives, so we have to take new ones. Last night somewhere around midnight I spotted this likely mirror at d.b.a. and broke out the tripod for a low-light shot.

The flare of light is not flash; it's me passing a candle under my face for a bit of illumination. The exposure here is kind of long - 4 seconds - and I tortured the white balance to get rid of barroom reds by taking a manual setting on a yellow globe light fixture.

Later - nine months later, when Utata holds its Utata Drinks It Up project - this image gets another ride on the tilt-a-whirl.

For what it's worth, this image has been spotted as high as #171 on the Flickr daily Interestingness charts.
