Linus Gelber

This picture was prepared for the upcoming "Utata Goes to the Movies" project of the Utata photography group.

The assignment was to create a picture in the style of a film or film genre, either a recreation of a scene or vibe from a specific movie or an evocation of a body of work. This, then, is a still from a future documentary called When America Owned Ports.

At first I wasn't going to make an entry in the documentary category, but in browsing my many shots of New York harbor from last summer and listening to the news about the upcoming sale of strategic harbor and port facilities to Dubai I felt the urge to go back and brush up an appropriate image for the times.

This is a shot of one of the harbor installations on the New Jersey side of New York harbor. Most container traffic is no longer handled in the harbor, but is diverted to the Port Newark-Elizabeth Marine Terminal.

Tech specs: Olympus C-765, 1/800 second, f/7.1, ISO 100, focal length 13.4mm.
