Part of the roof of the museum in Erdene Zuu Khiid (monastery of hundred treasures), one of Mongolia's most important monasteries, located in Kharkhorin.

Most Mongolian monasteries were damaged during the communist rule, and the majority of the temples at Erdene Zuu were destroyed in 1939, during the state religious purge.

Even before communism, however, Erdene Zuu had suffered damage. In the late sixteen hundreds, approximately one century after its initial construction, it took some beatings during inter-Mongolian fighting. The monastery was then restored and new temples were constructed beginning in 1701, and continuing for more than a century. In the 1870s, there were 62 temples inside the walls of Erdene Zuu!

It certainly retains some of its old splendor, it is a very peaceful place to visit.
