Still Life: Solanum dulcamara

Maureen Shaughnessy

I'm not 100% sure but I think this is Solanum dulcamara... if anybody knows better, please correct me. thanks :-)

The common name for this plant is Bittersweet Nightshade. It is also known as Climbing Nightshade. The species name, dulcamara, is a combination of two words -- dulce, meaning "sweet" and mara or "bitter."

Bittersweet Nightshade, which is poisonous to humans, is not the same as American Bittersweet, which is an entirely different vine of the genus, Celastrus.
