Spiral calla lily.

From Steep Ravine, north of the Golden Gate. A few more are tagged here in my photostream -- it's a wild place where great California photographers Imogen Cunningham and Dorthea Lange once vacationed in rustic cabins with their kids, and it is a place where calla lilies still grow wild!

i shot this in color, and played with it as a tribute to Cunningham, whose classic black and white works are all the more remarkable when you try to "answer" them:. Not so simple to do, of course. (one example). Obviously this is a departure for me, and largely a many layered photoshop exercise to pay a tribute to her darkroom genius.

How wonderful to walk in the footsteps of these Northern California women who were such inflluential photographic pioneers.
