He often wrestled with big words

Mark Kelly

I've always been taken by the costumes, masks and breezy showmanship of wrestlers.. I know nothing of the wrestling of the past few years (WWF/WWE and all that) .. My references come from the British wrestling scene of the 70s. My uncle (through marriage and mostly an as ‘ex’) was 'Big Daddy' (long time now in that big wrestling ring in the sky) and he and his ilk (giant haystack, Jackie Palo, Mick McManus, kendo Nagasaki) hold a nostalgic appeal. I also loved (and still do) the wrestling series done by Peter Blake in the 60s.
This doodle was done when I was reading the Guardian Literature section, having just sent off a new short story for a competition.. And realising I know so little about writing. By the way, the doodle also came out as a subconscious self-portrait. Yikes.
Disclaimer : I don’t own any masks.
