people like foreign countries (Pentti Saarikoski)

e

Pentti Saarikoski was a fabulous poet, who died from something alcohol related two years after writing this poem for the CCS.

This is my – unauthorized – translation of the “authorized, albeit rapid, translation” made by his wife, Mia Berner.

The night seeks cover with the night
the moon protects another moon
the houses support each other
people like foreign countries
------
Staying at the Centre Culturel Suedois in Paris for a while, my parents and I have discovered an incredible cultural treasure – an old guestbook that we found in a drawer. It begins in 1979, and contains original paintings, poems and sketches from some of Sweden's best artists and cultural persona.

I couldn't resist photographing selected pieces and sharing them, it makes for a great memory, and I want to remember and absorb these artists, and how their spirits fill these rooms that I am sleeping in.
