Find The Cost of Freedom....

Scott Dungan

The cost of freedom. WW2 Memorial, Washington D.C.

Each star represents 100 lives lost in defense of freedom. There are 4,000 stars on this wall. My father was a WW2 Navy vet. When I showed him this photo. He cried. His comment was "I'm not sure what we gained in losing all of those people." My father took part in the invasions of Normandy, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. I felt I learned more about him and his experiences from his reaction to this photo, than from the few conversations we ever had about the war.
