Library of Parliament

Ian Blum

This building was gorgeous with a wide open gallery in the middle and five floors of books flanking on either side. Luckily photography was aloud, but it came at a price. You could only take pictures from behind the service desk at the front. So no symmetrical, parallel, compositions of books, like I had hoped. Only a couple abstractions and window shots. I think I made the best of a so-so situation, luckily the clouds were cooperating.

It was taken during the Doors Open Ottawa event. I didn't get to see everything I wanted, mostly because there was a lot of places open, but also because some spots wouldn't allow photography. I really felt like a tourist in my own town, which is kinda nice since I got to do a lot of touristy things that people tend to miss out on when they live in a place for too long. It was like looking at Ottawa through fresh eyes, plus I got to see the insides of a couple buildings that are usually closed to the public.
