Ken

Andriy Chernevych

Ken was sitting on a bench at the Churchill Square alone, I was on my downtown street portrait quest - that's how we met. When I was taking his picture, Ken asked about the camera and then noted that he used to make photos too, back in the school days, grade 9, that was an activity organized by a teacher, they had their own lab in the school with all the chemicals. He was good at it. Once, he went out in the field and took some pictures of the local landscape, and when the pictures were developed, the teacher was genually surprised to learn that those were local shots - so unusual and dramatic the images looked to him. "Yeah, if you know how, you can do whatever you want with your photos," Ken concluded. He told me several other stories that afternoon - on how one can get to the movie theatre for 25 cents with popcorn and drinks included, how he worked all summer to earn $65 to buy a used Chevi only to burn its engine soon after... An interesting person, I wished I could stay longer and listen, alas I had to say good bye, perhaps I see him around one day.
