Orange Light

Ryan

Except for the normal color and contrast balance this image is straight out of the camera, the dark background was not done in post processing. Read the more properties link on the right side for camera parameters.

This is how I shot the lime and orange slices:

1) slice the fruit, the slices have to be thin enough to be translucent

2) wait for dark

3) bring up a white empty browser screen on a LCD monitor (only LCD monitors will work)

4) press the slice of fruit against the screen, it should stick but be prepared with a towel as fruit juice can make a sticky mess.

5) use a lens with a polarizer filter attached

6) rotate the polarizer until the LCD monitor looks dark

7) Photograph the fruit slices which if you have turned off the room lights should look like they are illuminated from within

This works because LCD monitors are polarized. The fruit scatters the light from the monitor depolarizing and altering the polarization of a portion of the light. This portion will now pass through the polarizer on the lens allowing a photograph to be taken.
