Apparently Mammoths

weren't too bright.

Okay, so the mammoths got stuck in the tar. Maybe they jumped in, maybe they fell in, maybe they were chased in by the wolves. Once they were in and sinking, all the wolves jumped in after them and tried to eat the mammoths. They all sunk into the tar. Apparently the wolves weren't too bright, either. No wonder they're extinct.
