Duck at Twilight

There's a moment near the end of the day
at twilight when change is really in the air.
During autumn especially,
this moment falls shortly after the end of the workday
and people walk about affected by anticipation;
and stop to stare at the changing light so pronounced.

The birds on the lake have gone to shore
raucuous on their roosts
except for a couple of stragglers
who float lazily, circling
reluctant for the day to really end.
