In Palm Desert, this is Lisa LaPlante, Fox News 17.

Susan Myrland

I was watching all the goings-on when a cameraman and a reporter began to set up next to me. They seemed rushed and harried. I offered to keep an eye on the gear while the cameraman ran back to his truck for something. We began to chat and I learned they were from Grand Rapids and had just flown in. I asked if I could offer a little unsolicited advice, and recommended they sand-bag their lights. Right at that moment one of the light stands blew over. The cameraman and I caught it, and he agreed that maybe weighting them down would be a good idea.

Since they had just arrived, they didn't know that a 20-50 mph windstorm was today's biggest story next to Gerald Ford.
