bifocals and words

Liz West

Years ago, I co-authored a book with three other writers, all women. Every Friday, we would meet. Afterwards, we'd all go out to lunch. I was the only one who wore glasses at the time, but when we got to the restaurant, everyone else borrowed mine to read the menu. I never really understood that. Apparently, they felt that glasses made them look old. So they didn't wear them and consequently couldn't read anything smaller than a stop sign. I, on the other hand, was and am eternally grateful that such a small tool can allow me to continue enjoying the world of print--both large and small.
