Daring Escape through the Marino Nebula

Shuttlecraft Berman whisks the Away Team to safety after a risky mission pitting the crew of the Enterprise D against a bunch of cute girls lying in the sun in Cobble Hill Park on a Sunday afternoon. It's a close thing.

This is an image for the Utata photo tribe's weekend Toys project. Most of my toys are either in the tech equipment vein, or involve digital media of some kind. I round up my few odds and ends and bring them out to the park, where I shoot them in the grass or, as in this case, on a hat on the grass (black background, see) for later cloning in Photoshop.

I don't buy sci-fi toys for the most part, but a local liquidator had a run of unwanted Star Wars and Star Trek miniatures on sale at 99 cents per box of three a few years ago, and I couldn't resist. Most of them are still in the wrapping. This shuttlecraft makes its first, and possibly last, trip outside for this project.

Tomorrow: the Borg.

Tech Specs: Both the shuttle and the background were shot, months apart, on an Olympus Camedia C-765. The shuttle was photographed outside in mid-afternoon sun, 1/125 second, f/2.8, ISO 100, focal length 6.3mm. It was propped up on a black fedora, which I vaguely thought might look like space (it did not), and the subsequent crop and clone in Photoshop was not really all that easy.

This picture has been spotted in the Top 500 Interestingess chart on Flickr, as high as #135 at one point.
