So I've discovered that my camera utterly sucks for this sort of thing. Too much delay after the shutter is pressed, not enough shutter-speed options, autofocus sucks, etc. If you were ever thinking about camera-tossing an older-model Sony Cybershot, think again.

All the successful shots were taken with the nighttime portraiture mode, actually.

Shot for the Utata Up In The Air project. I had a handy box of stuffed animals around.
