Legs

Patrick Power

It took about 9.85 seconds for me to trip the shutter then nail this pose.

CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE: In the process of arriving at this photograph, I had originally planned something more like this — mimicking emdot's wonderful legs photo. Not satisfied with the test shots, however, I looked at the bathtub and thought how cool it would look to simply have my legs hanging out over the edge, as if I had vanished somewhere into the not-so-very-deep depths.

Upon editing the images, I recalled having seen something somewhere that this resembled and before posting mine I did a search but came up empty. Last night, however, while perusing comments I'd made on others' photos, I came across the photo I'd recalled, something I'd commented on over a month ago by the very cool Simon Pais.

Not the same shot, surely, as Simon's shoulder shows (hah! say that three times real fast!), but no doubt the image of the legs stuck with me, so I feel obliged to tip my toes to Simon.

Which, then, leads me to an old poem by Bob Dylan:

"Yes, I am a thief of thoughts
not, I pray, a stealer of souls
I have built an' rebuilt
upon what is waitin'
for the sand on the beaches
carve many castles
on what has been opened
before my time"
