Seeing in the Dark


We are made of star stuff quipped Carl Sagan. Or, to put it into greater perspective, to make an apple pie from scratch, first, you must invent the universe. Ol’ Carl’s chestnuts aside, it is truly remarkable to think about our existence in the cosmic scheme of things.

I refuse to be cynical in the twenty-first century when it comes to thinking about origins. Sure, creation myths do not hold absolute or moral truths, nor are they intellectually satisfying. In some ways we have mathematics to say, this, this is the truth. But at best mathematics is just the midwife to our understanding and at worse separates us from appreciating the Beauty of the universe.
