We all of us, sometimes, seek the calm of a sanctuary. The world can seem a roiling place, always busy and rushed, and the thought of a calm and quiet shelter is powerfully attractive. And here, in this image of elegant seclusion from the world, we have such a refuge.
Here, in this bright nook, we are separate from the waspish meanness of the outside world. We are above the turmoil and tumult of daily life. We have time to think, time to relax, time to breathe and we can let all the rigors of our ordinary lives slough off like the skins of molting snakes. There is no need to struggle, and all the stirring agitations of life become phantasms, unable to disturb the sanctuary of the heart.
