Many Muses

Late Light

Sometimes the sun comes in the kitchen door, modest and unassuming. It must be wearisome work, being the sun. All that responsibility. Farmers require you for their crops, betrothed couples expect you at their weddings, the success of seasonal resort towns hinges on your cooperation. Each new day brings the same old demands from beach-goers and ball-players, from sun-bathers and beekeepers. Wearisome, yes, and oh so monotonous.

Surely we cannot blame the sun for setting aside its many burdens and slipping away on a lazy afternoon to sit at a kitchen table and sip cool tea from a green plastic glass.
