Blue Lagoon

Sometimes the photographer has not only the vision, but the words as well. “Man, I LOVED this one” says Roni Cotton about this photograph. We plan them within an inch of their lives, try always to be in the right place at the right time and sweat over the details. We sometimes admire our own work, pat ourselves on the back and feel good about a job well done – other times we roll our eyes and hope “next time” it will work better.

And sometimes, when we’re lucky and skilled, we get those photos, rolling off the camera and onto our screens in moments of pure “Man!” joy. When it’s not self congratulatory or even misguided – when the thing in front of you makes you … happy … when it meets your standard of personal excellence. Funny thing is, more often than not, this moment of joy and satisfaction shines through the image and gets the same response from the viewer.

For instance, this morning when I was looking for a blog photo, I opened this picture and said, “Man!”.
