Grouper Grope

Ah, the wonder and awe of a child! Reaching out to touch, to connect, with the marvels of the world, not yet cautious of perception or embarrassed by his own wonder. Leaned against the invisible barrier, this might be Spock mind melding with the whale, or Alice’s older brother following her down the rabbit hole into a world where giant fishes swim through the air.

Ah, the wonder and awe of a photographer! The ambient light is a sublte cloud of tonal perfection, the silhouette brilliant against the wall of glass and water and the composition beautifully balanced. Here we have two sets of wonder, one leading to the other, like a beautiful contagion on a live wire. And in these two separate experiences we are lucky enough to see the subtle question inherent in all such great images … did the muse brush her gentle influence against the child or the adult? The subject or the artist? And in the end, does it matter?
