Corner Office

It’s a simple thing, a desk. A flat slab of wood, four legs, maybe a drawer. Put a chair in front of it. Sit in the chair. And that’s where it all starts.

A desk needn’t be fancy. It needn’t be neat. It needn’t have In trays or Out trays. It needn’t be laden with the latest technology. The only thing a desk needs to be an altar of transformation is a creative person sitting in front of it. James Joyce brought the fair city of Dublin to life while sitting at a desk in Paris. Albert Einstein seized hold of the entire universe, then shook it out and reorganized it, all while sitting behind a desk at the patent office in Berne, Switzerland.

It is at the desk where ideas are translated into something tangible, something that can be shared. No matter if it’s elegant or humble, no matter if it’s expensive or cheap, no matter if it’s by a window or huddled in a quiet corner, when you turn to the desk wonders become possibilities and marvels are commonplace.

It’s a simple thing, a desk. Like so many simple things, it is much more than it seems.
