quonset blue

The first thing is that blue, wild and familiar as the sky. The second thing is that ripple, sleek as the thrilling descent of a child in her bathing suit sliding quick-as-you-can down a slippery slope.

Paradox: How can something so solidly built out of metal, plastic, and paint suggest such soaring movement in its curves? How is it that an aging artifact of a midwestern suburb so strongly recalls the rolling sea? When no one was looking, how did the corner of a car wash become the scarp of a mountain?

The third thing is gratitude, in a world full of disappointments and ugly mistakes, for still being able to be startled into amazement.
