Sometimes we run out of things to say. We’ve said it all, and we’ve repeated it all so often that there’s no point in saying it again. Sometimes we can’t think of what to say. We know we should say something, but we don’t want to seem stupid…or we don’t want to say the wrong thing…or we just don’t understand what other folks are talking about.

But sometimes we know we’re better off not saying anything at all. We know if we start to talk then everything we’ve avoided saying for so very long will come spilling out. We know there are things that, once said, can never be unsaid. Sometimes it’s best to govern the tongue and endure the silence.

Silence, according to the old saying, is golden. Silence can also be made of cold grey lead. Still, it’s good to know that even lead has value.
