sofa

Turn off the telephone. Slide off the shoes. Lay your weary self down, and stretch out like a book left open to a favorite chapter.

Just for a moment, just for a moment. Much has been done this day, but there is much left to do. Let it wait. Let the whole world wait, let the unruly world hold its breath long enough for you to catch yours. Just a moment, just for this necessary sofa moment.

Let your hips and resolute shoulders settle into the welcoming cushions. Let the strength drain out by degrees; you can be strong again later. Let your jaded eyes close and be reborn in the darkness.

Five minutes. Maybe ten. Let it all go. For five minutes, let it go. For five minutes, maybe ten, be still and empty as an unrung bell in an abandoned church at the end of an unused road.
