Trees are always magnificent, it’s true. And their leaves, whether they are newborn in the first blush of spring or strong and green during summer’s heat, are pretty nice too. But it is during the autumn when they go wild, turning into brazen show-offs proudly changing into blazing shades of orange, yellow and red. They are beautiful on the trees, hanging from delicate branches. They are inviting when spread out on the lawn like quilts we only wish we could make. They are joyful in loud crunchy heaps that beg us to set aside our reservations and jump, laugh, jump. And when they float solitary on satin water, they are peaceful, like a deep, quiet breath at the end of a long day.
