It Is A Truth Universally Acknowledged…

There are days, long days, days when when we’re tired (perhaps from the first moment of waking), days when things go wrong, and then more wrong, and then even more wrong. These are the days when we might look at a nearby clock and think things like “What do you mean it’s only 9:30?” and then the next time we look, when we’re certain that hours have passed, our mouths might fall open in disbelief as we think “What do you mean it’s only 9:45?” And so it goes.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that there are days like this, that there have been days like this and that despite all of our best efforts, there will be days like this in the future. There is no cure for them and while stuck in their clutches, there seems to be no relief. This is why, at the end of such a day, it is so completely necessary to find some comfort.

Perhaps we go for some comfortable clothes, or maybe some comfort food, or maybe a hot cup of tea and the deliciously cool intelligent prose of Jane Austen, who certainly knew a thing or two about extremely trying days, and reminds us that it’s okay to grin at them.
