Seldon,

“I have dreamed in my life,” Emily Brontë said, “dreams that have stayed with me ever after, and changed my ideas; they have gone through and through me, like wine through water, and altered the color of my mind.”

Photography does that. The process of seeking out and selecting a singular fragment in the grand constellation of the whole—it alters the color and shape of the mind. The realization that a particular fragment of the world, no matter how obscure or abstract, has a place—a necessary place—in the whole of the world is enlightening. It reminds us that we, ourselves, are a particular fragment of the world and we too have a place in the whole of it.

A photograph can stay with you ever after. It can change your ideas. If you let it, a photograph can go through and through you, like wine through water, and alter the color of your mind.
