Some tell the hour by the passage of the sun across the sky.

Others look to the earth and note the length of the shadows.

A few, it is rumored, can smell the hour in the green scent of a summer meadow.

And once there was a man who could detect the passage of time by taking the pulse of a tree. Unable to pass on his talent, he left behind another gift so that we can share in his secret.
