A recipe for happiness:

Awake with the sun. Don your favorite yellow slicker and the shiny black galoshes that squeak when you walk in the rain. On your way out the door, grab THE BUCKET, the one you’ve had since childhood, the one you use to collect seashells in summer, mushrooms in spring, and the smooth gray stones you find along the lake in winter. Now head for the forest with the meadow right beside it, where you like to count the stars in the midnight sky when everyone else is asleep.

Kneel down in the tall grass and layer the bottom of THE BUCKET with some goose down. To the goose down, add a peck of deep thoughts, a heaping of silly thoughts, and three perfect blades of end-of-summer grass. Fold in a handful of good memories and an armful of hopeful plans. Sprinkle with a generous number of dewdrops and stir until blended. Garnish with a single red leaf, a harbinger of good things to come.

Now pull the hood of your favorite yellow slicker down and turn THE BUCKET upside down over your head. No one’s watching, and who cares if anyone is. Just do it.

See? That’s happiness.
