Kew Gardens

There is something about this scene that reminds me of older ladies in pillbox hats, pencil skirted, suit jacketed. Of  high heeled, round toed shoes that click and clack. Of befurred necks, all foxtails and glassy-eyed heads. Of powder compacts and lipstick cases that close with a snap.

Of chatting over a silver service lunch, washed down with mouthfuls of gossip meted out arm-in-arm on the stroll to the palm house. Of confidences shared over ancient cycads.

Of old friends and days gone by, never to return.
