A Friend’s Face

Tomorrow is election day in the United States. Tomorrow those of us in the U.S. will elect a president. We’ll vote on who sits in Congress, and who’ll wear the robes of justice in our courts, and who should be allowed to marry, and whether marijuana should be decriminalized, and all manner of important issues. Tomorrow we’ll be deciding the future direction of the nation. And your dog won’t care.

The day after the election your dog will need to take a walk. He’ll be interested in slobbering on a ball or chasing a squirrel. He’ll be delighted to roll over and over in something astonishingly stinky. He’ll want food in his bowl. And he’ll want to be with you.

Your dog doesn’t care about taxes. He doesn’t care about foreign policy or trade agreements. He doesn’t care about the Second Amendment or the Right to Privacy. Your dog doesn’t care who gets to sit in the Oval Office, so long as he gets to sit beside you.

Life is pretty simple when you’re a dog.
