Minus 3 below this morning but the ice was nice

It is winter and the world turns to ice. Lakes freeze over and lacy patterns appear where once waves lapped at the shore. Icy stalactites form on tree trunks and roots. The winter sun hugs the horizon.

Days are short. Breaths are taken in gasps. Fingers stiffen with the cold, fumbling with the camera to take the shot so that hands can return to the warmth of cosy pockets, and the photographer can retire inside to see how he has brought this frozen landscape to life.
