No human thing is of serious importance.
— Plato

In the end, everything is a gag.
— Charlie Chaplin

If there’s anything in me that’s worth passing on, it’s this: seize the moment, love. Seize this life, dress it up well, and live it like the comedy it is.

We can’t stop the steady march of time, but we can drown out its mumbling with our loud, bawdy singing. We can kick it in the pants when it shuffles past, and then pull it into the pub for a laugh and a drink.

Once we make peace, the rest is a lark. Night may fall at last, but oh, how beautifully the dew shines on the cobblestone at our feet. How beautiful these long-forgotten voices, the faces that echo in our own, the songs that follow along behind us from our childhood. How beautiful the days still ahead, if we have the sense but to meet them head-on, with good cheer crammed into our pockets for the long walk.
