The Beatles assured us that ‘All you need is love‘. They’d been asked by an international television show to create a song “with a message that could be easily understood by everyone.” And hey, they did.

The problem, of course, is that the message isn’t really true. We might wish it was true, but it’s not. It wasn’t true back in 1967 when the Beatles recorded the song, and it’s not true now. Love isn’t all we need. It never has been all we need, and it’s unlikely that it ever will be.

But it’s a great place to start.
