This is a house constructed with a truculent contempt for slopes, scarps, declivities, inclines, and gradients of all sorts. Walk out the front door, you’re fine. But to circumnavigate the property is to take a desperate grip on the earth and defy gravity, to state resolutely that gravity has no jurisdiction here, that its unjust laws will be resisted.

“I will build my house in the manner I choose, and in the location I choose. No mere hill will stop me. I will stand at the top of the stairs, happy as the sky is blue, and look out over the valley; I will breathe the purer air of the hill, and loudly proclaim the flatland below is illusion, that all life stands precariously on the side of a hill.”
