the rug by the door

These two feet go in those socks. They’re not old socks, but not new. The still retain a little of the snuggle, cuddle of a new sock, but give these feet some space to wiggle the toes and plant the heel firmly on solid ground with each step forwards.

These two socks go in these clogs. These clogs are vibrant. There’s nothing baby about the shade of pink. They are loud, in-yer-face, don’t-mess-with-me pink. They are a statement, a declaration of hope and happiness and long hot summer.

These two clogs rest on the mat by the door. Without them you might get mesmerized by the shades of azure blue, or becalmed by the teals, olives and turquoise. Attracted by the autumnal orange.

These two clogs pick out the hopefulness of pink among the other colours, so that you are enlivened on leaving, and the rest of the palette is a calming greeting after a weary day out beyond the door.
